Paintings of the Australian Banksia can also be purchased online.

The Celia Rosser Gallery is a tribute to the botanical artist, a renowned Australian, best known for having illustrated The Banksias, a three-volume series of monographs containing water colour paintings of every Banksia species. This is one of the best art galleries Victoria for Celia Rosser paintings.

In 1974 she was appointed University Botanical Artist and began the project of painting every Banksia species. The project took over 25 years to complete and resulted in the publication of a three-volume monograph entitled The Banksias, with accompanying text by Alex George. Publication of the final volume in 2000 represented the first time that such a large genus has been entirely painted.

In 1977, Rosser was awarded the Linnaean Society of London’s Jill Smythies Award for botanical illustration, and in 1995 was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia. Monash University awarded her an honorary Master of Science degree in 1981 and an honorary Ph.D. in 1999.

Rosser began working on Volume 1 in 1974 and completed Volume 3 in 2000. Each volume of The Banksias has been presented to the Queen by the Australian Government as a gift of the Australian people.  Rosser was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia 1995 for her contribution to botanical art.

The Banksias – a three-volume series of monographs, has been described as one of the outstanding botanical works of this century and can be seen at the Celia Rosser Gallery
